Designers 4 Africa

One thing I'll be doing in California besides working for an investment bank is helping give back through a non-profit called 'Designers 4 Africa', or D4A.  D4A was started by April Star Davis....jewelry designer and stylist based in San Diego.  When I got involved with raising awareness for Darfur several years ago, I often came across April's name, and her involvement with helping those without a voice.  In 2008, I flew out to meet her in person.  April and I hit it off right away, and we joined forces.  She donated jewelry for a silent auction that we held here in Dallas that helped raise awareness and funds for the refugees struggling in Darfur.  Recently, April asked me to become treasurer of her organization, Designers for Africa.  She is about to launch her new website, and was just profiled in HauteLook magazine.  I am very proud and inspired by April.  She is a true artist, and though she is often surrounded by those in the limelight (models, actors/actresses, and other entertainment folk)...she prefers to be in the background...quietly making her jewelry, and giving a voice to the silent.  I'm attaching her magazine profile.  April has been humbly and quietly building her vision for a long time, and it has taken her years to get the 501c3 legal work done.  But she finally accomplished her goal.  She never gave up....or threw in the towel.  Her quiet determination and perseverance is inspiring.....she did not let obstacles stand in the way, and wouldn't take 'NO' for an answer.  I am honored to sit on the D4A board....and, look forward to helping April and the mission of D4A so that 'we can give back to our communities....give voices to the silent.....power to the weak....and, reconnect with that which nurtures the human spirit....all of which are trademarks of the upcoming Aquarian Age'.  Follow her on Facebook under 'April Star Davis Jewelry'.  Story to be continued...........
